Overview
The ability to stand and deliver your message confidently is essential for success in business today. This Short Course covers practical means for presenting a message effectively, no matter what size of audience.
Topics Covered
We workshop through a five step presentation process crafting a specific presentation that is relevant for you:
- Audience analysis and setting the purpose for the presentation – begin with the end in mind, what do you want your audience to do as a result of this presentation?
- Brainstorming/Mind Mapping the possibilities of the topic – a method for making sure that the presentation is conversational rather than read!
- Structuring the subject matter according to the length of the presentation – using an arresting opening, building a bridge to the audience, outlining a small number of key points and handling questions before concluding with a challenge for the audience to take action
- Style considerations – nerves are natural (techniques for harnessing the energy), being ‘you’ in front of an audience, catering for different audience learning styles (visual, auditory, read/write, kinaesthetic), being conversational and interactive (the extemporaneous style)
- Delivery – voice, stance, tone, eye contact, use of technology, visual impact, and ways to involve an audience
Who should attend
- Those giving a presentation to either team members or clients
- Those who fear having their say at a meeting
- Leaders who need to take team briefs and need to communicate information orally
- Those expected to give a presentation at a conference
Outcomes
You will give a relevant presentation that is evaluated by the other participants. This provides real hands-on learning. Places are limited for this Short Course to make the teaching effective.
What Participants Say
"I don't know anyone who relishes standing up in front of people and delivering presentations, whether they are formal such as conferences, team meetings etc – or more informal like selling your ideas to fellow workmates or yourself for a promotion etc. Because of my fear of public speaking I attended Roseann Gedye's Presentation Skills training and it was by far one of the most valuable workforce development training I have ever attended.
Roseann's delivery ensures no matter what your learning style you will get 'it'! She has put together a course that is fun, informative, very hands on but also provides great notes and evidence so you don't forget what you have learnt! Not only have I put many of the skills that I gained into practice while carrying out my mahi, but I also returned to my workplace and passed this info on to my own public health team so the learning went further then just me – so that's value for money!
I now have no fear of doing presentations because of the skills I learnt at this training."
