Overview
Value Stream Mapping is a fundamental part of Lean Thinking. You will learn to build a Value Stream Map for one customer process, with elimination of waste as a key objective. This practical Short Course will focus on examples from the Toyota Motor Corporation, an innovative organisation that utilises Lean Thinking.
Toyota Motor Company has been quietly revolutionising the manufacturing world, with its relentless focus on creating value for the customer and the elimination of waste. One of the most important tools that have been developed to support their activities is Value Stream Mapping, which as the name implies involves looking at Value (from the viewpoint of the customer); Stream (which is to show to flow) and Mapping (which is to create a visual diagram of the system).
Value Stream Mapping involves the refinement of Flow Charting, Process Mapping and Other Flow Mechanisms to include the following:
Value Stream Mapping is a powerful tool in the hands of frontline people who are able to map the current process and identify the highest priority improvement opportunities. It is a process which involves creating a visual summary of a map which shows and highlights the above 5 factors.
It is estimated that less than 1% of organisations are using this technique and less than 0.1% are using it effectively. The opportunity available to our people is huge and the early adopters are likely to be he greatest beneficiaries.
